Southwestern promise: the Newman Arms

The Newman Arms, on Fitzrovia’s Rathbone Street, is not what you would typically call a gastropub. The inconspicuous free house is steeped in the history of the city, reportedly serving as the inspiration for the “Proles’ Pub” in George Orwell’s 1984 and featuring in Michael Powell’s notorious 1960 thriller, “Peeping Tom”.
